The Stewart's Say Good-Bye To Dixie Dog

Dixie (or Old Girl as we had lovingly started referring to her) was our 13 year old yellow labrador retriever.  Dixie was my first "baby". Todd and I have never lived in our house without her.  She was at my wedding....probably the nicest thing my father-in-law ever did for me.  I had commented that I wanted a picture of Dixie and me in my wedding dress so after the ceremony was over my father-in-law disappears.  As Todd and are getting ready to leave the church we go outside and there she is!  I have that picture of Dixie and me in my wedding dress.  It's a black and white that sits in our master bath.  Dixie was there when I brought both of my babies home from the hospital. We have loved her and cared for her and spoiled her. Cole is not old enough to know her but he would curiously watch her and I wonder if he will realize that she isn't there now.  Emily cried and was sad but quickly began asking if our next dog would be a big dog or a little dog. Todd and I......well, it is harder for us.  But we had a decision to make and we had to do what was in her best interest. We are at peace with knowing that as much as we will miss her we did the best thing for her.
