With the mention of snow in Alabama comes a wave of panic. Everything closes, everyone runs out to buy bread and milk (yes, just bread and milk) and the roads shut down. Now I know to my seasoned snow folks up north this sounds ridiculous......and I suppose it is. However, this is indeed the way it goes. Last week our weather guys started talking about the possibility of snow starting on Sunday. A decent amount of snow at that........4-6 inches. Again, I know to some of you this seems like a "dusting"; however, this far south that is a pretty significant snow. Besides, those of us who were living here in 1993 remember the prediction for snow fall that would accumulate around 6-8 inches and no one saw less than a foot (many folks had 18-20 inches)! Of course the forecast changed a billion times over the course of 4-5 days last week and we ended up with a forecast of 1-7 inches for Birmingham north and ice to the south. Yes, I know what you're thinking.....probably the same thing that I was thinking on Sunday. There is a very BIG difference between 1 inch and 7 inches (especially in terms of snow). Well, we ended up with about an inch (maybe an inch and a half) but we did have some friends just north of us who were lucky enough to get 4-5 inches.
