We took a trip to Savannah.....almost 3 months ago. I had to go down for work so Todd and Emily decided to tag along and we turned it into a mini vacation. We headed over on Thursday (July 15th). The trip wasn't so bad until we got south of Macon. Can I just tell you that there is NOTHING south of Macon. That is until you get to the beautiful city of Savannah. We all fell in love with it! We checked in at our hotel (The Mansion on Forsyth Park) and then headed to dinner. Friday I worked and we ate lunch at Wilkes House. It's an old boarding house and I love to eat at places like this. I had high expectations because I kept thinking of Hopkin's. For those of you that do not know; Hopkins
is was a boarding house in Pensacola that served lunch and dinner. Seriously, the BEST fried chicken EVER!!!! I could eat their fried chicken, collared greens and sweet potato casserole every day of my life. The food at Wilkes House was good but I was a tad disappointed because it wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. But we met this really nice couple from CA in line who actually ended up sitting at our table so that was cool. For those of you who have never eaten at a boarding house most of them are family style and you sit at a table with people that you don't know and just pass food around until you can't eat any more. Everyone should try it at some point for the experience if nothing else. It's interesting and fun to break bread with folks you don't know. Wow, this was going to be pictures of Savannah......not a post about boarding house food. We also saw the place that Forrest Gump was filmed. Was there any doubt? I mean, hello....Peas and Carrots? We also visited Tybee Island which I hope that we get back to soon.
